Autonomous mobility: Malaga, new testing ground for urban transport with an autonomous bus.
16 April 2021 - The AUTOMOST project, led by the Avanza Group and whose project management office has been in charge of Novadays, has reached its peak with the launch of the autonomous bus of the company IRIZARcreated over the past two years by a broad consortium of technology companies. The bus is the first of its size to travel the streets of a city in autonomous mode, and sets a precedent for how urban transport will change in the coming decades. The project, because of its innovative nature, has caught the attention of numerous national and international media.
The Malaga bus is the third use case deployed by Novadays since 2008, when it defined autonomous and electric mobility as one of the most important areas for the company. areas in which to concentrate your R&D&I efforts. The two previous cases were the autonomous bus operated by Novadays itself in the Miramón Technology Park (Donostia-San Sebastián). and the autonomous minibus operated by the company ALSA at the Autonomous University of Madrid. This accumulated experience is today of utmost importance for the provision of the company's services in areas such as the following transport and mobility policies or the digital transformation of public services.
On the other hand, the project is part of the support to Spanish companies in the development of new equipment, products and solutions.being this bus the first vehicle developed in Spain to circulate on the road without driver. In this sense, Novadays has not only participated as a technology partner of the project, developing the management system to the demand of the service, but has also provided Project Management support to a large consortium of companies and technology centers.
In addition to Avanza, Irizar and Novadaysin the project have participated Tecnalia, Datik, Etralux , Masermic , Insitu, the EMT and the Port of Malaga. These organizations have also had the support of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Insia, CEIT-IK4 and the University of Vigo.
With this third case of autonomous bus in a real public service environment, Novadays consolidates the necessary knowledge to advise the public sector and operating companies to this technological change.
