Public Procurement

Novadays is a consulting company with a wide activity in the Spanish market and presence in other European and Latin American countries.

In the environment of consulting firms, Novadays is distinguished by its high specialization in public administrations and in certain sectors of action of these.

What are consulting or consulting firms?

Consulting firms are professional service companies that advise companies and governments in the different areas of specialization that are necessary for their proper administration. Thus, within consulting firms there is a wide diversity: ICT, Human Resources, Management, Strategy, etc. Nowadays, the term consulting firm is being extended to activities in which it was not traditionally used: real estate, accounting, engineering, etc.

Novadays is a traditional consulting firm, highly specialized. Our mission is to improve the society in which we live through consulting and, to achieve it, we study, design, implement and evaluate projects and actions that can improve society, whether they are promoted by the public sector or arise from the private sector.

What do consulting or consulting firms do?

Consulting firms provide high value professional services, always adapting to the needs of their clients. Some of the professional services provided in our market are:

  • The consulting firms carry out economic, social, market or technical feasibility studies for the start-up of new activities or the launching of new products.
  • The consulting firms design these activities or products, as well as define the strategy and operations to be followed for their implementation or launching.
  • The consulting firms carry out the necessary actions to implement these activities or to launch new products, in a broad sense, executing the operational processes that have been previously designed.
  • Consulting firms manage these activities, departments or offices, providing value as managers and not only as strategists.
  • The consulting firms evaluate the activities that have been implemented, allowing us to know the results that have been achieved.

The importance of people in consulting or consulting firms

In Novadays we understand that consulting should be linked to the experience and professionalism of the people who provide the services of consulting companies. Therefore, the training, both technical and skills, of these professionals is what distinguishes some consulting companies from others. Novadays consultants must have a deep knowledge of their area of expertise, skills such as the ability to analyze and present results, and an attitude of service, proactive, supportive and clearly focused on teamwork.

If you want to develop your career in a consulting company, Novadays offers you to be part of its team.

The history of consulting or consulting firms

Consulting - as a profession or independent activity - was born at the end of the 19th century associated with the management of large companies and linked to auditing. Large companies - mainly American - then began to value the external vision, provided by professionals who knew other companies in their sector or even experiences in other sectors that could enrich the company's internal vision. Thus were born what would become the great American consulting firms: Arthur D. Little, Arthur Andersen (today divided into several companies), McKinsey, etc.

After the end of World War II, consulting firms emerged in Europe, linked to university knowledge: a model that has remained to this day.

Consulting is today a mature market, which has led companies to specialize and provide differentiated services. Today, several types of companies can be found in the management consulting market:

  • Large, highly diversified consulting firms, in which a large part of the business depends on information technology (IT): Accenture, Deloitte, IBM, PWC.
  • Large consulting firms specialized in management and strategy consulting: McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group, Arthur D. Little, etc.
  • Boutique or niche consulting firms, specialized in sectors or functional areas of consulting. Within this type of companies, we find those specialized in Government and Public Sector, such as Novadays. This type of companies often exploit business areas of little interest to large companies and, often, have been promoted by professionals who were trained in large consulting firms.

Government and Public Administration consulting firms

Within the framework of the trend towards high specialization that characterizes the consulting sector, and the emergence of boutique consulting firms, consulting firms specialized in professional services to governments and public administrations emerged in the early 1980s in Anglo-Saxon countries. These consulting firms combine knowledge of private management (originating in business schools) with macroeconomics and political science. Their success is based on the fact that public management pursues different objectives from those of private enterprise, and that the instruments for achieving them are equally different.

The growth of these companies is due to the increasing professionalization of public management, the spread of strategic management practices in public administrations and the awareness of the need to optimally manage available resources. Within this general framework, public managers require external support to provide them with the knowledge they need to overcome the challenges they face.

Currently, in the market of government consulting firms, several types of consulting firms can be found:

  • Political image or political consulting firms: that advise parties and candidates on their electoral campaigns and public image.
  • Lobby companies, whose activity is to represent the interests of private companies in relation to decisions made in the public sector.
  • Public policy and management companies, whose activity is to support politicians and civil servants in the implementation, execution and monitoring of their activities (projects, services, programs, plans, etc.).

If you want to know how your organization or your company can take advantage of the knowledge gathered by Novadays in its activity with governments and public administrations, we invite you to contact our consultants.
