The Bilbao City Council has begun work on the replacement of the exterior carpentry of the Deusto municipal sports center. All the wood damaged by the passage of time will be replaced by more durable materials with an investment of 468,750 euros with the help of European funds from the Next Generation Recovery Plan.

The area affected by the renovation is the entire building as a whole, although, in order to make the duration and execution compatible with the activity of the sports center itself, work will be carried out in two different areas: the entire building excluding the facades of the volume occupied by the swimming pool and the area occupied by the pool, located at the height of the second floor of the building.

The works will involve, in a first phase, the dismantling of all grilles, shutters, louvers and exterior carpentry and the demolition of the glass pavés factory of the openings located on the landings of the main staircase of the building.

Subsequently, the new anodized aluminum carpentry will be installed, which will involve the installation of wooden profiles on the lintels of the carpentry on the Botica Vieja façade, the installation of a lightweight anodized aluminum curtain wall façade and the reconstruction of the interior panelling of the new curtain wall on the Botica Vieja façade.

The works will be carried out during the summer months, when the number of users is lower. The works will imply the closure of the Deusto sports center swimming pool during the months of July and August. The rest of the services and sports activities will be carried out normally and will coexist with the improvement works of the facility.

SUSTAINABLE RENOVATION WORK

Aligned with the City Council's strategy around the 2030 Agenda and with that of Sustainable Bilbao Kirolak, the replacement of the exterior carpentry of the Deusto sports center is an action that is part of a larger plan that will lead to an improvement in energy savings with which it is expected to achieve a 54.3% reduction in non-renewable primary energy consumption and an energy rating of the building in Class B.
